Prior to commencing the practice of law in 1984, JayZiskind was Chief Executive Officer of Cedars Medical Center, a 500-bed teaching hospital in Miami, Florida. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Ziskind has an MBA and a Doctorate in Public Administration and Management. He has broad experience in representing health care clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint venture projects, group practices, development and operation of outpatient entities, including ambulatory surgical centers, medical practices, medical staff issues and physician disciplinary actions before The Florida Board of Medicine.
A past nominee for the American College of Hospital Administrators, “Young Hospital Administrator of the Year” Award and The Rockefeller Public Service Award, he has advanced to the status of Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an achievement accomplished through his leadership in health and community affairs. In 1999, Mr. Ziskind founded and served as CEO of Global Surgical Partners, Inc., which syndicated with surgeons and hospitals to develop and operate Ambulatory Surgical Centers in Florida and Mississippi. In 2011, the company was acquired by Sheridan Healthcare.
As an attorney, Mr. Ziskind has represented a number of Florida hospitals with regard to corporate healthcare regulatory and compliance matters and served as Vice Chairman of a South Florida hospital leading it out of bankruptcy. He has also served as Managing Partner of an acute care hospital in Tampa, Florida. He has intimate knowledge and regularly represents physicians with regard to medical staff privilege, peer review and compliance issues. He served as General Counsel to the Dade County Medical Association for over twenty years and has served as General Counsel to the Florida Society of Ambulatory Surgery Centers. He has been named in “Best Lawyers in America” and has been Board Certified in Health Care Law since 1995 being among the first lawyers in the State to achieve this status.
Mr. Ziskind has been a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator since 2014 and has previously been qualified as a health care legal and administrative expert witness in both State and Federal Courts. Mr. Ziskind is a Member of the Board of Governors of NSU College of Law and serves on the Executive Committee as Chair of the Development Committee. He is privileged to sponsor the Jay A. Ziskind Health Law Lecture Series at NW’s College of Law which is an annual event.
